Board of Supervisors Appoints Thomas G. Mauk As County Executive Officer

(Santa Ana, CA) - Supervisor Tom Wilson, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, today announced the appointment of Thomas G. Mauk to the position of County Executive Officer. Mauk joins the County with an extensive background in public policy administration, management and experience at all levels over the last 30 years.

(Santa Ana, CA) - County Executive Officer James Ruth today appointed Marcel Turner as Human Resources Director for the County of Orange. The appointment is effective June 14.

Volunteer Hours Valued at $24 Million

(Santa Ana, CA) - Wednesday morning the Board of Supervisors will honor volunteers at the eighth annual Countywide volunteer recognition ceremony. More than 26,000 volunteers donated 942,097 hours of service valued at approximately $24 million in avoided costs for County government in 2003.

County Names New Chief Financial Officer

(Santa Ana, CA) - County Executive Officer James D. Ruth today appointed Edward Corser as Deputy CEO/Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Corser follows Interim CFO Fred Branca who has served in that position for the last 12 months. Corser's appointment is effective May 17.

County Names New Surveyor

(Santa Ana, CA) - The Orange County Board of Supervisors has appointed Raymond Mathe to the position of County Surveyor as part of the Resources and Development Management Department (RDMD). Mathe is a Professional Land Surveyor with 22 years of experience in government, cadastral and geodetic surveying. The appointment is effective April 8.

Orange County's Chief Engineer Receives ASCE Award

(Santa Ana, CA) - Ken Smith, Director Public Works/Chief Engineer for the County of Orange Resources and Development Management Department, was honored with the Engineer of the Year Award on February 19 from the Orange County Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). ASCE is a professional association with more than 130,000 members worldwide.

Sorting Problem Shifts Names on Sample Ballot

(Santa Ana, CA) - "Sample ballots, mailed last week to Orange County registered voters, list candidates' names for federal and Green Party contests in an order that will not match polling place ballots," said Steve Rodermund, Orange County Registrar of Voters. The races affected are President, Senate, House of Representatives and a Green Party county race.

Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park Reopens

Orange County park officials will officially reopen Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park tomorrow, Tuesday Jan. 27, after California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) announced today that it has obtained positive DNA results linking a suspected mountain lion to attacks upon two mountain bikers earlier this month.
