Orange County Business and Community Leaders Appointed to Workforce Investment Board
(Orange County, CA) The Orange County Board of Supervisors has appointed 44 business and community leaders to oversee $18 million of State and Federal funds that support Orange County’s One-Stop Employment Center system. Orange County Workforce Investment Board (OCWIB) members were selected through a countywide recruitment process that included Chambers of Commerce, professional associations and the Orange County Business Council. The OCWIB officially takes effect July 1.
The OCWIB is responsible for the development of a five-year strategic plan that addresses the workforce development needs of Orange County. The Board will also evaluate the performance of One-Stop Employment Centers and training providers in Orange County. They will also develop strategies to address the "skills gap" facing Orange County workers. The Board will implement a system that helps businesses find qualified employees and assists businesses forced to lay-off employees.
OCWIB-sponsored services are delivered through One-Stop Employment Centers located in Costa Mesa, Garden Grove, La Habra and Mission Viejo. Temporary career transition centers are also at Boeing-Huntington Beach and EL Toro MCAS.
Funding for the OCWIB’s One-Stop system and its other programs is made available through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). WIA replaced the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA).
