Board Finalizes Disaster Relief Fund

(Santa Ana, CA)—The Board of Supervisors today finalized the agreement establishing the Orange County Disaster Relief Fund and allocated $100,000 to the fund to provide disaster relief for County residents.  The fund, which will be administered by the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF), was formed in response to the recent Santiago Fire and for future disaster declarations.

OCCF will identify organizations with demonstrated and specific needs in connection with the Santiago Fire relief effort.  Individuals and private sector businesses will be able to make contributions to this fund and be eligible to receive credit for charitable contributions as well.

Any funds that are not needed for response to the Santiago Fire relief effort will remain in the Orange County Disaster Relief fund at OCCF to be available for future disaster relief needs.  In the event of future disaster declarations made by the Board of Supervisors, this Disaster Relief Fund will remain in place in order to aid in future response efforts. The fund will also help to expedite the allocation of these funds in a timely manner.

For information about making a donation to the Disaster Relief Fund, please contact Todd Hanson at (949) 553-4202, ext. 44, or visit the website http://www.oc-cf.org/.

“Relief resources have been strained as a result of the October firestorms and we need to ensure that service gaps are filled for our residents,” said Supervisor Bill Campbell.  “The Orange County Community Foundation is uniquely suited to fill this need by providing resources to non-profit organizations that have a demonstrated track record of providing rapid relief services.”
