County Hires Child Care Coordinator
(Santa Ana, CA) - A child care expert with nearly 30 years of experience starts work this week to help the County improve the quality and number of affordable child care facilities in Orange County. Anne Broussard will be on County Executive Office staff as Child Care Coordinator.
She comes to the County of Orange from a position as Child Care Coordinator for the City of Los Angeles, Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families. While in LA, Broussard developed a partnership between the City and the County Office of Education's Head Start program that blended various funding sources and resulted in creating a full-day child care program. Head Start, a federally funded program for the preschool children of low-income families, only operates two and one-half hours per day. Broussard's coordination produced an all-day program that served approximately 250 children at 17 sites.
During her LA tenure, she assisted in developing approximately 50 new child care centers.
"High quality, affordable child care is critical to the ability of working parents to maintain their jobs, have good work attendance, and have peace of mind that their children are being well cared for," said Cynthia P. Coad, Chair, Board of Supervisors. "Anne's background is impressive, and I'm confident that she will build partnerships throughout Orange County's child care network that will benefit children, families and the workforce."
Broussard was previously Child Care Coordinator for UCLA's University Village Child Care Center and, prior to that, Child Care Coordinator for the City of Pasadena. At University Village, she managed the construction of a new facility and supervised a staff of more than 50.
She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in child development from California State University, Los Angeles. Broussard has taught child development and early childhood education at both California State University, Los Angeles and Pasadena City College.
