Tobacco Use Prevention Program and Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition Kicks Off No Tobacco Day 2000
(SANTA ANA) The Orange County Health Care Agency, Tobacco Use Prevention Program and the Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition (TUPC) are celebrating the 3rd annual World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) 2000 with a kickoff race/event. This race/event will include a 5 K walk/run, 10 Mile run and kids fun run races on Sunday, April 30, 2000 at Newport Beach Back Bay.
This year’s event is a kickoff to a month of tobacco prevention activities here in Orange County. The day begins with the 10 mile run at 8:00 AM, the 5K walk/run at 8:15 AM, and then the kids run begin at 9:45 AM. After the races, attendees will enjoy a great community event with interactive tobacco education game booths, entertainment, awards ceremony, and free refreshments.
This race/event was started in May 1998 to promote awareness and education about the negative impact tobacco has on our county. This special day is intended to demonstrate community support for youth in their efforts to remain smoke free.
The Orange County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition is a broad-based, multi-ethnic community network of over 35 agencies and organizations committed to reducing tobacco use in Orange County. Membership includes representatives from health, service and community agencies, youth and parent groups, education, business and media.
