SAUSD Recognized Supervisor Janet Nguyen for Her Dedication to Support Open Park Space
Supervisor Janet Nguyen Cuts Ribbon for Hoover Elementary School’s New Playground Equipment
(Santa Ana) The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of Hoover Elementary School’s new playground renovation and to formally recognize First District Supervisor Janet Nguyen for her efforts in securing funding for this project.
To complete this project, Supervisor Janet Nguyen made an allocation of $55,000 from District One’s Fund 130, which was voted on and approved by the Board of Supervisors. SAUSD Superintendent Jane Russo, Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante, Board of Education Vice President Rob Richardson and Principal Richard Valle all spoke of the importance of this project and thanked Supervisor Nguyen for her support.
The scope of work included the removal of the old playground equipment, as well as the installation of the new equipment, which was done in July and August of this year. This new playground will benefit Hoover Elementary School’s 531 students.
“I will continue to work to fund more projects like this throughout the First District,” said Supervisor Janet Nguyen. “Given the dearth of park space in our District, school playgrounds often serve as our neighborhoods’ only available open space, as well as our children’s only easily accessible playground. It’s important to encourage our children to lead a healthy, active lifestyle, and I hope the renovation of this playground will give these children a safe and enjoyable environment in which to grow.”
With the stated goal in mind, Supervisor Janet Nguyen has also pledged to work with cities in her district to repair their parks and assist local schools in bringing their playgrounds and playground equipment up to date.
(L-R) Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante, SAUSD Trustee Rosemarie Avila, SAUSD Superintendent Jane Russo, Supervisor Janet Nguyen, SAUSD Trustee Vice President Rob Richardson and SAUSD Trustee President Jose Alfredo Hernandez celebrate the ribbon-cutting of Hoover Elementary School’s new playground equipment.
Supervisor Janet Nguyen represents the First District on the Orange County Board of Supervisors and is Chair of the OCTA’s Transit Committee. She represents more than 600,000 people, covering the cities of Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Westminster and the unincorporated community of Midway City. Orange County ranks sixth in the nation as the most populous county and has the nation’s seventh highest annual budget.
