Orange County Planning Department Introduces Online Permit Application System
(Santa Ana) The Orange County Planning Department is improving its customer service by utilizing technology to allow for online permit processing. Customers now have the option to apply and pay online for seven types of minor permits without having to come to the county office.
This new online application process has a one business day processing timeframe to allow staff to enter all the data and verify that the project complies with all applicable ordinances. This new process will help businesses and residents save time and money by just applying online. OC Planning’s ultimate goal is to make applications for all permit types available online.
“The County is always looking for innovative and cost effective ways to improve our services to County residents and I think this new online permit application system is a great example of how we can achieve that goal,” said Supervisor Janet Nguyen, Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
The current online permit application system supports permit applications that do not require review of full sets of plans. Each online application must be reviewed by staff to ensure the project complies with all applicable codes. Customers can apply for the following types of permits online and print a job card on their home printer: air conditioning unit replacement; ceiling fan installation; fireplace/chimney installation (excluding freestanding fireplaces); forced air unit replacement (heater); water heater replacement; re-roofing; and plastering.
The online application is available on the OC Planning website at www.ocplanning.net, along with instructions on how to use this application.
