Employment Verification

County of Orange employees can utilize The Work Number to provide proof of employment and income verifications when applying for a loan, buying a car, leasing an apartment or other instances. The Work Number is an online system available to verifiers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.



To help your verifier obtain proof of employment on you, provide them this information:

  1. Access The Work Number at http://www.theworknumber.com or 1-800-367-5690.
  2. Enter the County of Orange Employer Code: 11006.
  3. For User ID, enter Social Security Number.
  4. For PIN, enter the last 4 digits of Social Security Number.

Here’s How it Works:

  1. County of Orange’s payroll department securely transmits employment and income data to The Work Number on a regular cycle, so the information remains current.
  2. When you apply for credit or other services where proof of employment or income is required, you provide consent to the credit grantor to verify that information when signing the application.
  3. The verifier—who has been carefully screened and credentialed before gaining access to the system—uses the County of Orange employer code: 11006 and your Social Security Number to look up your record in The Work Number database. 
  4. The verifier must provide a valid reason or permissible purpose for requesting the information, as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
  5. With the above conditions met, the verifier can validate your employment or income in seconds, accelerating the decision process and helping you obtain the credit you deserve.

  1. Does The Work Number verify employees from all departments?
    - Yes, The Work Number can be used to verify employees from all departments. 

  2. Can Eligibility Workers use The Work Number?
    - No, employees in the Eligibility Worker Unit must contact their department’s HR and Payroll offices for employment and income verification.

  3. Does it verify information for employees that no longer work for the County?
    - The Work Number can verify information on former employees for approximately 30 days after they separate.

  4. Does it verify Personal Services Contractors?
    - Yes, Personal Services Contractors who are paid through the County’s payroll system are included in The Work Number.

  5. What do I do if my verifier does not use The Work Number and/or cannot get the information they need?
    - You may contact your department’s HR.
