In 2014, only 6% of the 26,050 animals impounded at OC Animal Care had some form of identification (pet license, microchip, etc.). 68% of those animals with a form of ID were returned to their owners compared to only 9% of animals without identification.
During the summer holidays, especially 4th of July we see your largest intake of pets our first priority is to try and reunited those pets with their owners. Please help your pet find their way home to you if they get lost. A license, microchip or tag could be your pet's ticket home!

News ImageJune 19, 2015  A Happily Ever After for ChenchoOur officers face a variety of situations everyday. Here is one of their happily ever after stories.
This little guy was rescued by OC Animal Care’s Animal Control Department in March of 2014. His previous owner was seen by witnesses abusing him. At the time of impound Animal Control Officers found the 3 month old puppy inside a bag, completely zipped shut, and filled with trash. The local Police Department arrested the former owner and charged him with animal cruelty; he was sentenced with serving jail time, formal probation, and fines.
Fortunately, the puppy didn’t have any major injuries and was immediately place under foster care. His Foster family was able to find a loving forever home for him. His new family named him Chencho and they love him to pieces!
