Ethan Miller Brown has dedicated more than 400 hours of service as an intern with the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department Emergency Management Bureau. He has served as an Emergency Management Intern from April 29 through December 19, 2008. He is a recent graduate of Chapman University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and is currently attending California State University, Fullerton, pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Urban Management.
Ethan demonstrated unwavering enthusiasm and a “can-do” attitude throughout his internship. He displayed consummate professionalism in performing his day-to-day duties and was instrumental in completing numerous projects that were vital to the safety and security of Orange County.
Ethan’s support during several 2008 Emergency Operations Center activations, including the May 22nd Modjeska Canyon mudslides, July 29th Chino Hills earthquake and November 15th Freeway Complex fire, was exemplary. His commitment was particularly evident during the Freeway Complex fire and subsequent rains. As part of the activation, he provided exceptional support for the Emergency Management staff even though his own home was threatened by the fire and potential mudslides.
In addition to other contributions, Ethan was essential in the development of several technology and research projects, including the composition of the Emergency Operations Center Web site and a presentation on Pandemic Influenza.
Ethan provided crucial expertise in the field of Geographic Information Services, which greatly assisted in the creation of maps for use by decision-makers and first responders in actual emergencies and the expedition of emergency notifications to impacted communities in the AlertOC system.
Ethan’s outstanding contributions and long-term commitment on behalf of the residents of Orange County are greatly appreciated and worthy of our highest recognition.
