He believes strongly in the importance of giving back to the community by volunteering his time, talents and energy. In keeping with this philosophy, Don is one of the founding members of the Caspers Park Preservation Foundation (CPPF), a volunteer naturalist group dedicated to the support of Caspers Wilderness Park.

Caspers Wilderness Park is Orange County’s largest park. The wilderness setting offers a rare opportunity to experience nature in its entire splendor throughout the year. Open for both day use and camping, visitors can enjoy a number of recreational activities, including several unique interpretive programs to acquaint them with the natural splendor of the area.

Don has been an active member of the CPPF Board for 30 years and served as the organization’s president. Over the years, his dedication and enthusiasm in support of the CPPF have never waned. He is involved in every aspect of the organization from assisting park rangers with special programs and events to sharing the knowledge and wisdom that he has acquired as a volunteer naturalist with park visitors. Don also edits and publishes the CPPF newsletter, contributing dozens of hours each month to researching relevant topics and preparing material for the publication.

Don is an excellent park naturalist and is often invited to provide insight and information at a variety of venues scheduled throughout Orange County. In addition to his work with CPPF, Don has served as a member of the OC Parks Ranger Reserves for a number of years. His long-term commitment to Orange County and OC Parks is greatly appreciated, and his outstanding volunteer endeavors on behalf of Caspers Wilderness Park are worthy of our highest recognition.
