Functions of Agency/Department:

The mission of Orange County Human Resource Services is to attract, retain, and develop a highly skilled and competent workforce so that County agencies/departments can provide outstanding services to their customers.

Intern Duties/Responsibilities:

Assist Human Resource Services staff working for a large public organization. Duties may include, but are not limited to: participating in research assignments and assisting in Countywide HR projects/initiatives; designing and conducting surveys; assisting with classification projects; providing staff support with internal and external recruitment tasks; evaluating various processes and/or data; analyzing, summarizing and preparing written recommendations relative to information gathered; preparing documents and reports; updating and creating resource material; interacting with other governmental jurisdictions; and helping with day-to-day office activities.

Educational Requirements:

This internship is best suited for upper-division or graduate students or recent graduates majoring in the following areas: Human Resources, Employment Law, Psychology (including Industrial/Organizational) or related fields.

Skills, Training or Qualifications:

  • Effective organizational skills
  • Work independently within parameters of training provided
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to provide own method of transportation to conduct research/analysis
  • Identify pertinent issues
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literate (proficient with MS Office Suite or equivalent)
  • Reliable
  • Work well with all levels of staff

Time Commitment:

Minimum 15 - 20 hours per week for 3 - 6 months. Flexible hours available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for this internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.
