Santa Ana, Calif. (July 13, 2026) – The County of Orange and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) invite residents to provide their feedback on a draft of the County’s 2026 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). The public comment period will open August 3, 2026, and will remain open through August 17, 2026.
This plan is updated every five years and is required to maintain eligibility for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance grants. The plan analyzes risk from natural hazards (e.g., wildfires, earthquakes, flooding) in the County’s unincorporated areas, identifies regional mitigation capabilities and outlines a strategy to reduce that risk.
Community members can review the draft plan by visiting the project website: https://arcg.is/ffvPj1.
Creation of the plan was a collaborative effort among County departments, community-based organizations, technical experts, and State and Federal agencies. The plan includes a risk assessment, profiles relevant hazards and their potential consequences, identifies assets that are subject to losses or damage, and estimates the potential losses that could result from each type of hazard. The plan also identifies a prioritized list of actions designed to reduce losses and increase community resilience.
Public Information Meetings
Two public information meetings will take place on August 5, 2026, to present the findings of the plan, outline the mitigation strategy and answer questions from the public. Community members who live in unincorporated Orange County are encouraged to attend one of the meetings to ask questions about natural hazards in their area, such as wildfires, floods, and earthquakes.
