Preparing Your Family for El Niño

The following items are tips to prepare your family for El Niño weather-related events:

1. Create an emergency plan for your family that details what each of you will do in the event of an emergency.
2. Create a portable emergency kit that includes valuables, important documents, medications and any other necessities. Have the kit easily available and inside a waterproof bag or container.

4. Stay alert for significant weather conditions through alerts, mobile apps or weather forecasts.

   Keep your vehicle in good working condition by checking the battery, windshield wipers and tires.

6. Keep flashlights and batteries easily accessible. 
7. Secure trash and debris to keep them from blowing away in the wind or being swept away by flooding.
8. If you drive, be aware of downed power lines, poor road conditions, traffic signal outages, and people or animal on the road.
